In 1889, when Germany's total industrial output surpassed that of agriculture, it became a major industrial power. The industrial revolution that took Britain nearly 100 years to complete took less than half that time in Germany.
With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Germany's automobile industry had basically formed an independent industrial sector, and the use of gasoline engines in automobiles was becoming increasingly popular. The gasoline engine provided a great opportunity for the development of petrochemical products. This also laid a solid foundation for the success of "Norbert" in the future.
In 1929, Thomas, the founder of the company, established a chemical company named Thomas in Ludwigshafen, the "chemical capital" of northern Germany, which was mainly engaged in the development of petrochemical technology and the manufacture of petrochemical products. Thomas's destiny was changed by an occasional meeting with Fritrich Benz, the head of Mercedes-Benz. The two men have been in business ever since.
In 1931, the Thomas Chemical Company started its own production of motor oil for automobiles and established the first external production company in the industrial port of Mannheim, and thus the German Norbert Petrochemical Company was born.
In addition to supplying automotive lubricant products to Mercedes-Benz, Norbert Petroleum & Chemical also supplied lubricant products to other German automotive companies. Norbert Petroleum & Chemical's lubricant products, which were always sold only in Germany, were manufactured for decades around German automotive companies from the date the first lubricant products were produced. During World War II, Norbert Petroleum & Chemicals also supplied the Nazi forces with lubricants for the war effort's machinery.
With the emergence of the World Rally Championship in 1973, the lubricant products of German Norbert Petroleum & Chemical Company also began to go out of the country with the cars, and began to be known to the consumers of other countries with the car events. Since then, Norbert lubricants have been marketed worldwide.
Today, Norbert Lubricants is available in 46 countries and has established more than 70 marketing agencies around the world.
In 1987, Norbert Lubricants established its first laboratory in Munich to develop high-performance lubricants to meet the demands of the increasingly harsh racing environment. Since then, Norbert Lubricants has been developing its technology like a tiger with wings.
In 1997, "Norbert synthetic oil" was launched and became popular in Germany, and the product was the first to be made with synthetic base oil, which was one of the first brands in the world to produce lubricants with synthetic oil.
In 1999, the secondary hydrocracking technology was applied to the product development. All of our products use hydrogenated oil to blend high-grade lubricant products. One of the first companies to use secondary hydrogenated base oils to manufacture lubricants at the same time as Mobil and Shell.
In 1996, as the industry continued to grow, the Munich labs developed new high-end fluid products for modern industrial equipment lubrication, and as industrial lubricant fluid sales increased, Norbert shifted its focus to supplying industrial fluids in 2000, and in 2006, industrial fluid sales even exceeded automotive oil sales at one point.
In the last decade, Norbert has accelerated the export of industrial specialties and established foreign offices in many European countries.
